YMCA WorkWell released the 2024 Workplace Well-Being Report, which delves into the state of employee well-being in Canadian nonprofit organizations. Over 20,000 employees across Canada were surveyed, over 13,000 of which were nonprofit employees. Of the nonprofit employees, over three quarters had a healthy Engagement score. Despite the high levels of engagement reported, 1 in 4 nonprofit employees are reporting burnout often or extremely often. The study found that nonprofits struggle with employee recognition, with only half of nonprofit employees indicating that they receive the appropriate recognition for their work. Of the 13,0000 nonprofit employees surveyed, 1 in 5 are considering leaving their role in the next six months, that is 500,000 nonprofit employees in Canada considering leaving their position. Based on the research, the primary reasons nonprofit employees consider leaving their role are higher pay (61%), burnout (41%), and feeling under-appreciated (37%).

YMCA WorkWell also expanded the research to encompass how the nonprofit well-being challenges impact Canadian communities, access the report to learn more.
