Deloitte Global’s Women @ Work: A Global Outlook Report examines critical workplace and societal factors impacting women’s careers. The study captured the perspectives of 5,000 women from organizations across 10 countries, seeking to understand the lived experiences of women at work, and how their lives outside of work can impact these experiences.
According to the research, more than half of women noted their stress levels are higher than last year, and two-thirds of women are not comfortable discussing mental health at work or disclosing mental health-related reasons for absences. Women seeking new positions cited a lack of work/life balance and flexibility among the top reasons for leaving their current employer. There was an improvement in women’s experiences of hybrid working—including when it comes to exclusion, predictability, and flexibility. However, three in 10 women working in hybrid positions are experiencing exclusion from meetings, a lack of predictability in their working patterns, and a lack of flexibility.
Women are feeling unsafe in the workplace as non-inclusive behaviours continue (43%) – with a quarter of women noting that they experienced inappropriate comments or actions from people in senior positions in their organization, according to the study. The report provides recommendations to address these challenges and recommendations for employers to progress to create safe and healthy workplaces for women to thrive.
