Statistics Canada released the 2022 Canadian charitable donation data, which indicated that just under 5 million Canadian tax filers declared a charitable donation in 2022. According to the report, the total amount donated fell for the first time since 2016, which was a decrease of 3.1% to $11.4 billion. The data shows that there was an increase in mid-sized donations and that there were fewer larger donations. Tax filers reporting donations of $100,000 or more declined by 12.4% in 2022, and the total amount donated decreased by 13.4%. Seniors continue to be the most charitable Canadians, with those aged 65 or older accounting for 34.2% of donors in 2022, while those aged 24 years or younger accounted for only 3.2% of charitable donors. According to the report, British Columbia (-11.8%) and Ontario (-6%) recorded the largest declines in donations in 2022. To learn more about the 2022 Canadian charitable donation data, click here.
