Statistics Canada released the 2021 data on rural and small town nonprofits in Canada. The number of nonprofits operating in rural and small town areas in Canada dropped by 2.6%. Nonprofits operating in rural and small town areas employed over 444,000 people, which was up by 3.8% over 2020. Nonprofits in rural and small towns earned $27 billion in total revenue, which was up by 15.6% over 2020. The most common activities for these nonprofits included religious activities (23.4%), sports, recreation, and social clubs (17.4%), and social services (13.2%).
