TD Wealth published the Women and Philanthropy Report 2023: Trust and Transformation, which examines the critical role women are playing in the Canadian charitable sector. The report delves into the unique way women are approaching charitable giving and explains the ever-evolving generational differences of women philanthropists.  The amount of donations women claimed in annual tax filings jumped from $1.5 billion in 2011 to $4.3 billion in 2021, and based on the study, TD Wealth predicts that number will increase to $5.9 billion by 2030. The study found that trust is a critical decision driver for women, which is reflected in the level of research women undertake to ensure their due diligence before donating to a cause. The philanthropic priorities vary generationally, with younger donors prioritizing donating to causes that address historical and emerging inequities, while older donors continue to support charities that their families have donated to in the past. The top causes Canadian women are supporting include mental health support and research (42 percent), medical research and treatment (38 percent), and climate change and environmental efforts (37 percent).
