Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) announced that nominations are now open for the 2024 Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case. The Governor General’s Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case, established in 1979 for the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking Persons Case in Canada, honour recipients annually, including at least one youth (aged 15 to 30) from across the nation. They carry on the legacy of the Famous Five, embodying courage, integrity, and dedication. These awards celebrate individuals who have made remarkable strides toward gender equality in Canada, representing diverse backgrounds and regions.

Application Deadline: Monday, July 1, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST.

Guideline for Nominators

Below are some examples of who may be nominated (individuals may not nominate themselves):

  • Corporate leaders or board members;
  • Volunteers;
  • Facilitators and advocates;
  • Artists;
  • Community activists;
  • Specialists in issues facing women and girls; and
  • Academics and researchers.
