WomanAct and the Government of Ontario released Race and Gender in the Workplace: A Backgrounder, which provides an overview of the structural dimensions of gender and racial discrimination and how the intersection impacts the opportunities and experiences of Indigenous, Black, and racialized women in Canadian workplaces. According to the report, Indigenous, Black and racialized women face unique, intersecting, and compounding forms of gender and racial discrimination that impact their employment opportunities and experiences in the workplace. Over half of racialized women (63%) had their employment impacted as Canadian employers did not recognize their certificates and qualifications. Reportedly, 44% of racialized women noted they had their employment impacted by the effects of racism and racial inequality on self-belief and belief in their abilities. The report also delves into the intersection of gender-based violence experienced in the workplace. According to the study, more than half of Canadian women (52%) have reported being subject to sexual harassment in the workplace.
