YMCA WorkWell published the 2024 Workplace Well-Being Report: The State of Employee Well-being in Canadian Nonprofit Organizations. In 2024, YMCA WorkWell collected insights from over 13,000 nonprofit employees across Canada in an effort to understand the state of employee well-being in Canadian nonprofit organizations. The purpose of the study was to explain why employee well-being is so critical in the nonprofit sector.

The report outlines how pressures are impacting employees working in nonprofits, how employee well-being is impacting the stability of the nonprofit sector, and how employee well-being is impacting the services that nonprofits are able to provide in their communities. According to the study, of the 13,000 nonprofit employees, 76% had healthy employee engagement scores, 14% had adequate scores, and 10% had unhealthy scores. More than half of nonprofit employees (58%), and nearly three-quarters of leaders (71%) reported experiencing burnout at least semi-regularly.
